Core’s metallurgical laboratories were established in 1981 as the Hydrometallurgical Research Laboratories (HRL), owned by Mt Isa Mines, subsequently acquired by Xstrata and then Glencore. Core has continued HRL’s long history of process innovation, continuing to produce and commercialise world class process technologies.
Core was established by a group of Australian mining industry leaders in 2001 as a specialist process and resource consultancy business. Many of the staff at Core have held senior roles in Xstrata/Glencore.
In 2006 Core acquired HRL from Xstrata, renaming the laboratory to hrltesting. Core and its laboratory are now fully independent, and privately owned.
Since 2015 the laboratory has traded under the parent group name of Core.
Where We Are Today
Since acquiring the laboratory Core has continued to provide world class process development and technology services, heavily investing in the development of new technologies as part of our business model in addition to high quality metallurgical testing services. In addition to the laboratory, the Core group includes a Process Engineering group of approximately 12 chemical and process engineers who provide specialist flowsheet development and mineral process engineering services. It is this combination of a specialist metallurgical testwork laboratory and a specialist process engineering group that sets Core apart, and enables us to provide a truly knowledge based service to our clients.
